The Search Goes On
I really hadn’t anticipated how much time and effort would be involved in sourcing materials. I’m kicking myself because had I thought about it I could have done this prior to buying the plans and had more time on my hands. Anyway I didn’t and so I shall live with it, as I’ve said before the choices I make now are key to the whole project.
I am learning a lot about the epoxy materials available in the UK and have focused on the main ranges from:
- System Three
- UK Epoxy Resins
- SP Systems
Pricing comparisons are a nightmare as some sell in different pack sizes some in Litres others in Kilograms and as the products have different densities conversions can be misleading. Valuable information from TheMultihull forum has given positive feedback on most of them. Ultimately therefore I think my initial decision will be based on a ‘feel’ for the company based on contact and from then on usage and allergy issues. The Sicomin products from MCMC are looking favorite at the moment.
I have also just mailed out a load of enquiries for timber, I initially thought I might source everything from one supplier but I have subsequently learnt that suppliers of clear grade Douglas Fir are few and far between and that I need different suppliers for Marine Grade Ply. I have set myself a target of 2 weeks to sort this all out so that I can place orders and get enough initial stock of materials to complete the lower hulls.
