The Rain In Spain…..Well Portugal Actually
The sky on Saturday night hinted that we were in for something unusual, although it appears the old saying ‘red sky at night, shepherds delight’ doesn’t apply down here, because any Portuguese shepherd wandering about the hills the following day would very likely have seen his flock being washed downhill at a rapid rate of knots and I’m not sure he’d have been delighted about it.
We had rain on Sunday, a lot of rain. Faro airport recorded 100mm, that’s more than the Algarve is supposed to get for the whole of October. Apart from a lull mid-afternoon it rained for 24 hours, heavily.
When there’s a lot of water about the best place to be is on a boat, we hunkered down and kept dry. This morning we woke to find all the water in the marina had been replaced with tea.
Down the coast a little way in Albufeira folks have suffered badly. It’s reported one man has died in a submerged car, people have lost their homes, businesses have been destroyed.
The photo above is from THIS SITE some amazing pictures and video have been posted there.
The weather is staying unsettled until Thursday apparently so we’ll not be straying far from the boat, I’m very much hoping we get the sunshine back soon, we didn’t sail all this way for UK rain!
On Saturday morning, before the weather arrived, we walked over to the regular Farmers Market held next to the Bus Station. A fantastic experience, authentically Portuguese, I’ll leave you with a few photos.
