The Flower Shower
Another first over the last few weeks was standing naked in a bucket having a Flower Shower. Not on deck I hasten to add; too dam cold as much as anything! We don’t have a bath or shower on board which kind of made the battery operated candles I had for Christmas “to put round the bath” obsolete. (They are on a shelf in the galley instead). So how to get a shower? When we are on our mooring and in places like Fowey shower facilities on shore are available.
Quick plug – Toms Boatyard in Polruan has a new block with a Chandlery, Toilets, Showers and a Laundrette. Excellent facilities.
Our shower facility is The Flower Shower. This consists of a collapsible rectangular bucket (thanks to Gary & Lorna for this) which stands on the floor in our heads compartment and is the shower tray. The shower part is a Hozelock porta shower which you pressurise by hand and it has the tiniest shower head which you’d think was never going to give out more than a dribble. As long as it is filled with the right amount of hot to cold water (kettle boiling involved) then it works really well. Trust me I was surprised followed by impressed. Had a proper full shower with shampoo x 2 and a condition.
It got its name ‘Flower Shower’ as the porta shower is essentially a flower sprinkler. But hey, it works and no electronics to go wrong. Following our ethos of doing things the “Wharram Way”.
