Systems & Clones
Slightly random post tonight as I continue my enforced boatbuilding lay-off. In between trying to get the new place sorted and starting to move Gails stuff over here I’m stepping up the pace with my business because as I indicated last night there’s a big reality check coming up!
As many of you will know I opted to start an internet based business to finance the Gleda Project and I’ve been working at it full time now for about 9 months. I’ve made a lot of mistakes, spent a fair bit of cash, and wasted a huge amount of time, but I’ve persisted and I am now beginning to see my way forward. My biggest problem by far has been distraction, I guess it’s true in many businesses but in this one it’s a huge problem. Virtually every week there is a big launch promoting the latest product, software, course, seminar that is marketed as an absolute must to move your business ‘to the next level’, boy is that one overused phrase! It’s really hard to resist checking these things out and before you know it you end up spending huge amounts of time jumping around from this product to that seminar to another course, always in search of the ONE. The silver bullet, the press button solution, the one that will make you money whilst you sleep. Ridiculous isn’t it and yet these guys are so damn good you still end up getting sucked in. Actually I don’t think there’s any way of avoiding this when you first set out, in fact I’d go as far as to say that it’s all part of the learning process, but for me it’s over. I’ve finally reached a point where I can ignore the majority of this crap and FOCUS.
I desperately tried to avoid facing up to it but there’s no ignoring it any more, if you’re going to be successful, if you’re going to make any decent money at this thing then guess what? You’re going to have to work and work damn hard! Duuurh!
So that’s it then, best crack on. There is another important lesson I’ve learned though, it’s all about working smarter, having systems in place that can be repeated and outsourced, yes it’s about working harder but it’s also about working smarter. I’m getting the hang of this now and tonight I made a huge leap forward after the discovery of a tool which for an investment of $97 now allows me to ‘clone’ a complete website in a few minutes. Previously it would take me 3-4 hours of work to set a site up from scratch, something I really needed to do virtually every day but simply hadn’t got time for. Now with my system and my ‘cloning’ tool I can set up half a dozen sites in less than an hour. Shame there;’s not such a tool for Tiki 38’s!
