Making It A Business
I’ve come a long way since I first began to consider an internet based business the best way of financing the Gleda Project now and into the future. As I’ve mentioned before in many of my posts on the subject, I’ve had to wade through a lot of crap to find the good stuff, but bit by bit I’ve made sense of it all and bit by bit I edge closer to arriving at a place where I have a business plan, systems to match and an reliable income from a ‘proper’ business. Selling my skills in keyword research, WordPress site set up and Search Engine Optimisation tactics have proved to be the fastest and most profitable way for me to get some cash flow going however it doesn’t fit the long term goal of a high degree of ‘autopilot’ income, something that will be needed when sailing for extended periods. I’ve recently started to re-visit something that I looked at right at the start of this journey, namely Affiliate Marketing, this is where you get paid a commission for selling someone else’s product online, be it physical or digital. Although this activity can be very profitabel there is a valid argument that it doesn’t really represent a sustainable long term business proposition because your sales can be ‘switched off’ at any point by the owner of the product or the affiliate network controlling the sales. That said as long as all your eggs aren’t in one basket and you are constantly growing the number of monitised websites you’re running that may not be a huge problem but I’ve decided to follow a safer route, one that I am optimistic will bring a more reliable cash flow as time goes on. So what’s the plan? Well it’s simple really, I develop small niche blogs monitised through affiliate offers into reliable little income generators, I rinse and repeat this process to start building a portfolio of little businesses then, when they are working well I make a decision, I ether keep them to develop further ultimately creating my own product to sell or I sell the website as a going concern, something that is getting more and more popular through websites like Flippa.com. For me this business creation is pivotal to the success of the Gleda Project and I’ll be happy to share more about the tools, processes and results if there is enough interest. I’ve said it before and no doubt I’ll say it again. The Gleda Project is about far more than building a boat and I genuinely believe that building an online business is the ideal way to fund a building and sailing project and more than that I intend to prove it. So I have a question for my loyal readers. Is this something you’d like to get more information about or not? I’ll continue to refer to it during my day to day blogging of course but what I’m talking about here is sharing the hard won knowledge I’ve built up over the past few years. If you’d like to become one of my ‘insiders’ I can promise some really interesting stuff for you to share but I’m only going to do this if there’s enough interest, so if you’re one of those that would like to hear more about the online business building side of the Gleda Project then please drop your name and e-mail address in the box down below and we’ll see if we can get something exciting underway!
