Lofted Out & Epoxy Order Arrived
Another two hours clocked tonight and I have finished lofting out the backbone. I will double check all the dimensions tomorrow but it looks good. It’s great, and at the same time a little scary to really get a feel of the size Gleda will be. I’ll try and post some photos tomorrow. If all goes well I will put in a full day tomorrow and hope to start cutting the hardboard templates.
The epoxy order arrived yesterday and rather than store it in the cold I now have a cluttered hall again! I have decided to use Sicomin from Matrix Composites in Bristol. Given my complete ignorance of epoxy systems I have been guided by advice from other builders and Matrix/Sicomin was recommended in particular. I have to say that if the products are as good as their customer service I will be well pleased. I have had several long conversations with a guy called Wiz Deas who has helped me not only with advice but worked out quantities for me and given me a good price. I have put a link to their website on the navigation sidebar.
This is the pallet as it arrived the blue keg is a 33kg of epoxy resin, the white drums contain Cotton Fibre, Glass Bubbles and Silica. I also got a starter kit of brushes, rollers, mixing sticks, hand cleaner, acetone etc. I have a fast hardener for the resin, some glass bi-ax tape and a roll of something called Peel Ply which is designed to avoid sanding fillets between coats. I will describe how and where all these things are used as I find out myself! One big learning curve coming up!
By the way there is nearly £600 worth of product on that little pallet!
