Layout & Bearers
The duct tape moulds worked well on the stringer bow and stern joints. I will finish them off with a thickened epoxy mix tomorrow. My time today has been spent getting the position of all the floor and bunk bearers clear in my head. This involved close scrutiny of the plans and required some decisions regarding the layout of the hulls. I have decided to have the main shower and toilet compartment ‘en suite’ with the permanent double berth in the starboard hull. There is an option to have it in a separate compartment forward but, given that I will probably live aboard in UK waters for a while at least I didn’t fancy having to go on deck to use the facilities! I am also sacrificing one of the single berth cabins to make a workshop/bosuns locker.I will probably put a second toilet in here too. With the double berth in the main saloon and single berth cabin portside and the watch berth on deck ‘Gleda’ will still be able to sleep 6 comfortably or 7 if two are very good friends! To help me visualise these layouts I have written cabin descriptions on the barn floor in all the right positions. Having got that clear I then started making all the bunk and floor bearers that need to be fitted to the bulkheads. You can see the ones I’ve done today in the photo below right.
