I’ll Be Happy When …..
I’m a big fan of Seth Godin. He posts something on his blog each and every day and it’s always insightful, inspiring and stimulating. I have no idea how he does it.
A few days ago he posted one called If your happiness is based on always getting a little more than you’ve got…
In it he describes how the ‘system’ conspires to condition us to always be looking for the next thing, always wanting more, always wanting better. Saying to ourselves “I’ll be happy when….”
It made me think about my own situation. I’m struggling everyday to find the time and money to build ‘Gleda’. I have a distant goal to see her on the water, to live on her, to sail the oceans. There have been many many times when I’ve thought to myself I won’t be happy until I’ve finished the build, I won’t be happy until I’m back on the sea, I won’t be happy until I’ve escaped.
I should be ashamed of myself. I’m privileged to be doing what I’m doing, to be building a boat, to be planning future adventures.
Yesterday we lost a family member to cancer, he was 10 years old.
I’ll remember him when I start wishing things were better.
