I got plans!
I went down to the Wharram offices on Friday and collected my plans from the lovely Liz who is holding the fort whilst the Wharrams are away sailing. It would have been good to meet James, Hanneke and Ruth but I was just too damned impatient to get my hands on the plans! I had a nice chat with Liz but I’m afraid she probably thought me rude as I didn’t stay long because I wanted to get studying! …… ‘Gleda’ will be Tiki 38 #107.
I have spent lots of time over the weekend going through them and first impressions are good. There are five large plans covering the hull structural details hull panels and deck. One Sailplan & Rigging plan and two smaller ply cutting plans. In addition there is a large A3 Building plan book full of detailed sketches and text showing every stage of construction and an A4 book with useful general information about cutting timber and using epoxy. Lastly a lot of information and an order form for the West Epoxy System. You can see some photos here. One of the things that has impressed me immediately is the information and guidance to small details like where wet hanging locker drains, storage and toilet/shower options. I love the opening deck hatch for lifting buckets of water in harbour, using as a toilet at sea and as a place to be seasick! I’m moving to my new place next week so things will be a bit hectic for a while but reading these plans will keep me going until I can start work.
