Happy New Year!
Well here it is, 2013. The year ‘Gleda’ gets launched and a new chapter of my life commences, it’s going to be a fantastic year! I hope all of you have an equally exciting 2013!
Today I’m easing into it and I thought I’d share this historic little video with you. Shot in September 1955 as James, Ruth and Jutta prepared to depart Falmouth for the West Indies aboard TANGAROA, the story of which was published in Two Girls Two Catamarans.
It was a very different world back then and I wonder if James ever imagined what he was starting, I suspect not, he was just following his dream. If the universe permits ‘Gleda’ could be tied to that very same quay 58 years later with another dream follower aboard!
Hopefully if you click on the image below you should go straight to the video but as British Pathe only allow previews I think the link is time limited. If it doesn’t work just go to www.britishpathe.com, search on ‘Falmouth’ or ‘£200 Boat’ and you should find it.
It’s so small! Thanks for the video, that was fun. Can’t wait to see a video of your own as you’re preparing to sail. Won’t be long now!
It is like being part of a worldwide family. The Wharramites family.
Nice comments about Pilgrim… She is waiting on the dry. One thing: When hauling her out, i have noticed a crack under the foremast box which supports all the compression. I will have to put a stiffener here. I think you should directly put one (idem for the steering pod floor), just for peace of mind.
Happy new year Neil.
Glad you enjoyed it Eric, I’m tempted to make a black and white video of my own with similar music!
Glad you spotted that Jacques, I’ll add it to my list! Bonne Année!
