OK I have moved, pretty much settled in and got the all important broadband back. I can’t believe how much time it takes just to get all the mundane but necessary crap sorted out. Nice to think though that the next time I move into a new home it will be onto ‘Gleda’. Winter is fast approaching and although we have been blessed with an Indian summer here the weather has turned. Typical autumn in the UK, wind rain and chilly temperatures. Just to make it final the clocks go back this weekend and we plunge into short days. The media is talking about SAD syndrome and travelling brings to mind the great line from Dire Straits’ Telegraph Road ‘these rivers of headlights, these rivers of rain’. Boy am I glad to have this project! Physicological sunshine during the build and the real stuff when I go sailing!
Over the next few weeks I intend to start making some real progress towards the build start. Two things to concentrate on:
- Build Site – Clearing the barn, fixing gutters and doors to improve weather protection, additional lighting & power outlets, storage and site hut.
- Materials – Quantifying timber & epoxy needs from plans and materials list, researching and sourcing locally, getting quotations
I am itching to start cutting timber up but I know that getting these things right will pay huge dividends later, not least in costs.
