And Now For Something Completely Different
Seven days ago I posted that I was really going to push on with the glass reinforcing of the port hull. Seven days later I haven’t done a tap on it!
I should have kept my mouth shut shouldn’t I? It’s all good though because the time in between has been flat out with work that’s putting pennies in the bank to pay for the acres of glass twill, epoxy and paint that I’m going to need to finish the job.
I guess now is a good time to tell you about another revenue stream I’ve added to my life. I’m building jumps for horses!
It’s funny sometimes how things just come along at the right time, serendipity I think it’s called. Anyway at the back end of last year my landlord at the boat building barn asked me if maybe I’d be interested in working a few days a week for him as he was expecting to be getting some new business providing equipment for various show jumping events around the country. For some reason he figured that if I could create a pair of half decent looking boat hulls from a pallet of plywood then maybe I could cope with building gates and fences!
The reasons I say that this came along at the right time are twofold. Firstly I was feeling a little jaded with my web and internet business and secondly I just wasn’t making enough money. Actually there was a third, I’d been slowly coming round to the idea that being self employed means that you can pick and choose how you spend your time, mix things up if you want to and even do things that you actually enjoy. Talk about missing the bleeding obvious!
So that’s what I’ve been doing and I’ve been working on horse jumps all week. The woodworking shop is next door but one to the barn where Gleda is resident so I get to see here most everyday and as I eluded to the other week, that’s good for the soul even when I’m not actually working on her. And I get to use all the machines and facilities for work on Gleda as well, how good is that!?
Anyway to avoid a repeat of last weeks prediction I’m going to say that I’m not expecting to do any work at all on Gleda next week 😉
Very cool!
I’ve been wondering what else you were up to. That’s definitely one of the best things about this lifestyle… taking advantage of different oppotunities when they come along, and being able to change it all very quickly if you feel like it.
