821Hrs – On The Throne
Today I have been working in the toilet and shower compartment. After much thought I have decided to stick with the keep it simple philosophy and have opted for a large porta potti over a plumbed in sea toilet. The model I have bought has a large bowl, a 20lit holding tank and a 15lit flush tank. Plenty big enough for my purposes. I do however want to make it part of the boat and to that end I am fitting it into it’s own compartment and changing the original thin plastic seat for a decent wooden one. I also want to make everything as easy to clean as possible with no awkward corners and water traps. I had to fit a new floor at the right height to take the toilet base and then cut a new bulkhead to fit in front of it. I have cut holes in the bulkhead to allow access to the holding tank opening handle and so that I can see the holding tank indicator.
To help me visualise the compartment I set up a couple of battens at the height of the deck and was pleased to discover that being a short arse has it’s advantages…. I have standing headroom in the shower!
Tomorrow I’m going shopping for the toilet seat so that I can progress with the fitting.
