709Hrs – Floors Cut & Fitted
A beautiful day today, sunny, dry and 11’C, not bad for early February. It was a shame in some ways that I spent most of it in the barn. I’m glad I did though because I now have all the floors cut and fitted in place. I still have a lot of work to do before I fix them though. I have to sand and plane the stringers and backbone in places to ensure that the floors sit flat & level, and then key sand & clean up ready to epoxy them in. It seems strange to be sealing some areas in permanently and making others all but inaccessible but that’s the way they are designed and the sealed ones contribute quite a lot of added buoyancy and in effect make the hull double skinned. In the panel designed to lift I have drilled a decent diameter finger hole in preference to the two holes and a rope loop show in the plans. I will probably end up laying some floorcovering in the main cabins and a rope would have left a lump! I had some rare visitors come up to see Gleda, my daughter Nicole, her boyfriend Alex and his mom & partner. I’m sure they went away wondering what kind of madman Nicole has for a Dad!
This photo was taken at 6pm tonight on my way back from the barn. Stunning sky and moon!
