688Hrs – Music Hero
No work on Gleda last night because the evening was spent in the company of Mr Steve Earle and his wife Alison Moorer. OK there were quite a few other people there as well but I didn’t mind sharing! What can I say? Two and a half hours of raw mainly acoustic stuff straight from the heart. I’m not one for having hero’s but Steve’s music has been hitting the spot with me for many years now. He has been described as a rebel and a maverick but I just see him as a supremely talented guy about the same age as me, who ploughs his own furrow and doesn’t tolerate bullshit. In the latter two I like to think we have some similarities. He is a survivor, on his seventh marriage, past alcohol and drugs problems, and a spell in prison. He’s still standing and he ain’t ‘laying his hammer down’ just yet.
I think this quote sort of sums up his character.
" I make an embarrassing amount of money for doing something I love — especially for a borderline Marxist. I like to tour in a bus, but if you think I couldn’t hitchhike with one guitar and play a show and get the money, you’d be sadly mistaken. Don’t ever fucking bet against me."
With his music still resonating in my head I put in a couple of hours tonight and got all the below floor fillet areas prepped ready for epoxy.
