609Hrs – Odd Jobs
As predicted its gone below freezing and a 3 hour session at the barn tonight left me feeling decidedly chilly. It took me a couple of hours to clean out the countersunk screwheads fill them with bedding compound and then to give the keelstrips a good cleanup with a rag and white spirit. Slow unphysical work that let the cold gnaw away at me. Despite this I wanted to get some epoxy mixed up and applied infront of the leading edge of the keelstrips. Hopefully the photos will explain better but I was concerned that, underway, water would be forced under the strips despite the bedding compound, so what I’ve decided to do is form small faired ‘shields’ on the hull infront of the keelstrips that will protect the front edge. I ‘shuttered’ the area with tape and cardboard and poured in a thickened epoxy mix. Once it hardens I can sand it to a nice smooth shape.
