477Hrs – Learning Fast!
Oh boy! Today has been by far the hardest one of the project so far. 8 hours almost non-stop, trying to work fast but at the same time do the best job I could. I have completed one side of the port hull and I think it’s OK. I won’t really know till tomorrow. I’m glad I pre-coated the ply though as it made it pretty easy to wet out the twill. I found it best to use a foam roller initially, just rolling in one direction, and then to follow on with a rubber squeegee. I followed Thomas’s suggestion and pre-weighed batches of epoxy ready to mix and that helped speed things up. Applying the PeelPly was a challenge, I found it very difficult to get it on smooth without stretching and creasing, eventually I just used my gloved hand and it got easier with practice. I did lose one batch of epoxy whilst messing with the PeelPly I’d mixed it up and forgot about it until I saw the smoke coming off it! I then rolled and squeegeed on another coat of epoxy to wet out the PeelPly. Anyway I learned a lot and I hope that will allow me to complete the port hull tomorrow. Photo on the left shows the PeelPly and Glass Twill I am using.
