389Hrs – Pondering the Rudder Mounts
Not a terribly constructive night tonight. I finished off the skeg rebates and then rounded off and sanded them smooth. I then made up a drilling template from ply so I can mark the hole positions accurately and quickly. I then stalled! I don’t want to drill any holes until I’m absolutely sure what I’m doing. Thanks to Beat for his comments on how he dealt with the problem. I will probably follow suit although I am still pondering a way of injecting or compressing epoxy into oversized holes that can then be drilled.
Injection might be good idea. Seal one end of the hole with your finger and squirt epoxy into the hole with a syringe. I wouldn’t know if you actually would be able to drive the epoxy into the wood more than it penetrates naturally, but whatever calms your conscience, I guess. Once you figured out a way to drill them with enough precision (which I was able too only with the lower two rebates, the ones you’re working on now), you might as well just leave them for now and worry about sealing them once you redrilled the holes through the glass. Just a thought.
