3828Hrs – Fitting Out Focus
I finally got focussed today and spent the entire day working on the main cabin fit-out. I got all the shelves in place to take the plastic drawers and made a shelf for the top of the unit. There’s a bit of trimming and sanding to do and I need to make some stops to prevent the drawers sliding open in a seaway, but that’s pretty much it. I’m pleased with the finished unit, it’s a good use of space and easily accessible.
My thoughts then turned to the nav station. Again I took some time experimenting to get the right height in relation to the seat, and thinking about how the chart table might fold away to allow access to the aft bunk and stowage compartment. I’m going to make things simple by suspending the fold down section of the chart table on ropes attached to the deckhead. I got the idea from Jacques ‘Pilgrim’ and it simply works.
To give me a base to work off I got the fixed section of the table glued in place and added a dividing bulkhead to the hullside. I’m still making it up as I go along but so far so good.
