3778Hrs – Masts and Stern Tube Prep
The title says it all, apart from slapping a coat of primer inside the dinghy I’ve spent the entire day prepping the masts and stern tube for painting.
I first drilled holes in the cap gussets to take the fastenings for halyard and gaff control blocks and then small holes in the caps themselves to take masthead light mountings.
I’ve decided to go with the ‘keyed’ mast foots to prevent any mast rotation, so after carefully marking the positions I cut a couple of notches in the bottom of the masts to suit.
After that it was all about grinding, sanding and de-greasing. It was very dull work for a very dull day. It’s been raining heavily all day and it was so dark I needed to keep moving the work lamp so I could see what I was doing. The weather has cleared through this evening though and the forecast is decent for tomorrow. If the paint is delivered as expected I hope to crack on with painting.
On an entirely different subject I took the first custom made mattress up to the boat today and dropped it into the forward cabin. Looks good and comfy.
