3400Hrs – Mast Case Construction Completed
The bulk of todays session was taken up with making and fitting the two big cleats for the mast case.
A ferret through my wood stock revealed a nice piece of oak perfect for the job. It was a fairly straightforward operation using the bandsaw, router and sander and a few hours later I had them epoxied and bolted into position forward and aft of the mast tabernacle.
I also cut and fitted an 18mm ply cap to the forward end of the case then spent some time epoxy filleting and filling redundant screw holes. That pretty much wraps up the basic construction of the mast case.
There’s still the mast base to sort out but I have the same thing to do for the aft mast that’s set into the deckpod and as I’m using aluminium masts rather than the timber ones in the plans some modifications may be needed. I’ll look at them later.
