3179Hrs – Aft Platform In Place
Well the weather today was a shock to the system. 5’C on the way to the barn, barely reached double figures and there was a stiff Northerly blowing which made it feel even colder. As I tweeted earlier I’ve missed the runny nose and cold fingers… not. I’m thinking I’d best get used to it though because it’s going to get a lot worse before it get’s better. Still this is definitely my last winter of building
Anyway I cracked on cleaning up the aft deck frame I put together yesterday. Sanding back the excess epoxy and routing a nice edge on all the underside exposed edges. Once that was done I was able to drop it into position on the boat so that I could cut the 12mm deck to shape.
I made the deck up out of three pieces to save ply and after marking them up got them screwed and epoxied into place. Before I fixed them I walk tested the platform out to the stern tube and there was only a small amount of ‘bounce’ I know that once the epoxy sets it will stiffen up, I’ll also be epoxy filleting all the underside joints but I’m prepared to add a few more strengtheners if needs be.
