2821Hrs – Beams Ready For Final Stages
A productive session today, I spent some time marking up and drilling pilot holes through the beam troughs so that when I drop the beams in I’ll easily be able to mark them ready for drilling. ( These holes are for the stainless steel retaining pins that go through the centre of each beam and trough, more details when I get to them)
I’d drilled the previous ones a bit low on the front and centre beams so some adjustment was needed. I filled the small holes I’d drilled wrong and then after cleaning out the wells I gave them another good coat of paint.
After that I flipped the beams upside down and screwed on all the UHMW PVC spacer blocks in the correct positions. As before I screwed them down on bedding compound.
Once that was done I roped in Malcolm to help me lift the beams back down onto the deck so that I could clear the barn out a bit ready for the next stage and final stages of the job.
I’m going to lift the beams back into their troughs, make sure they’re positioned correctly, mark the retaining pin holes and side spacer positions then lift them out again, drill the holes, fix the spacers and then lift the beams back again!
There’s quite a lot of work left to do to get this crossbeam phase finished but I’m on the downhill run now.
