268 Hrs – Straps!
I have been much reassured by the comments from Thomasand Jacques telling me not to worry too much about the ‘wobble’ none the less it’s been bugging me and I been taxing the grey matter trying to think of a way that I could apply tension to the hullsides in a way that was quick, easily adjustable and non damaging. I think I may have found the answer! Webbing ratchet straps, I already had a set that I use for installing wooden flooring but they are readily available as tie downs for loads on roofracks, trailers etc. I’ve been playing with them tonight and already I am getting close to finding the points on the hullside that need pulling together to take out most of the ‘wobble’. In my next work session I’m going to remove the long external stringers, use the straps to pull things together and then, whith the tension still applied epoxy an internal stringer in place followed by temporary ply braces. I can then remove the ratchet straps and fix the external stringer. Sounds like a plan to me but feel free to throw in any comments you guys out there have! I already put a strap to good effect tonight as I hadn’t pulled in the hullsides fully to the edges of bulkhead 3. They are pulled in now!
