2623Hrs – Pipework Box V2
I had some running round to do this morning so I only managed a few hours at the barn this afternoon.
As it was cold and wet I had no qualms about heading down below again to continue work on boxing in the water tank pipework.
I said yesterday I was making it up as I went along and when I looked at the job again this afternoon I immediately saw a far better way of doing it.
It’s funny how that happens so often, you ponder and tat about trying to do something, not really happy with things but carrying on regardless, and then sometimes, as happened today, you look at something and the penny drops immediately.
As you can see in the photo I’ve basically made the whole cover as a removable box, I’ll put a big radius on the exposed corner and epoxy on a couple of blocks to screw it to. I’ll stick some foam insulation strip on the edges where the box touches the hull to give it a nice fit and the jobs a goodun.
It was a fairly straightforward job although templating the hullside to get a decent fit took a bit of time.
What I like best about this design is that if I need to get to the pipework for any reason the whole thing can be removed in just a few minutes.
It seems to have taken an age to get this water tank and pipework finished but at least now I’ll know exactly what I’m doing when I repeat the process on the starboard side.
That is a sweet design and execution Neil! I think in a similar situation I would probably left the pipes exposed. And yet again your diligence in the cold weather has me ashamed at my weakness to tolerate the cool temps in the basement:(
Take care
Edward
Hey Neil, I have to tell you what my girlfriend asked when I told her about the difficulties of other builders (and she knows all of mine). She asked, ” Does any boatbuilder have a wife?”
lmao
I told, her yes, but not only one!
Cheers Edward sometimes I wonder if I should be spending so much time on things like this but then I know that if I don’t it will irritate me for a long time afterwards!
So true Mike I’ve been picked up more than once for saying it’s time I got back to my girl (Gleda) !
