2337Hrs – Building Momentum
After a day off yesterday I was keen to get back to ‘Gleda’ and to get cracking again. My main job today was the third and last painting of the waterline. Thanks to the sound advice given by Jacques and Beat that I was being too optimistic with regard to the waterline I’ve done as they recommended and lifted it so that it’s just below the chine at the lowest point.
After marking the new lines I masked up and slapped on two coats of the Jotun tie coat paint. That’s it now until the antifouling paint goes on just before launch.
Back inside the galley I’ve started constructing the box for the rubbish bin next to the companionway and done some more work on the cutlery drawer.
This afternoon I had two pleasant interruptions, one to chat with a new timber supplier who it turns out is a keen dinghy sailor. He was really interested in ‘Gleda’ and is able to supply all the remaining timber I need. The previous supplier let me down with the timber to finish the crossbeams but I should now have this new supply later this week which will give me another big job to get my teeth into.
The second interruption was a complete surprise and even more welcome, it was a phone call from Hanneke Boon! I’d written to her and James last week to ask if they would consider attending Gleda’s launch this year and she was calling to say they’d love to! It was great chatting to her and she’s given me some useful ideas and contacts for possible completion and launch venues in the Falmouth area.
Anyway I’m going down to Falmouth at the end of the month and I’ll be meeting with them to talk some more….very exciting! It’s my intent to have the completion and launch venue finalised by the time I get back, all I need to do then is commit to a date and tell everyone, now that’s a scary thought!
Thanks to Beat Rettenmund for his recent comment which included the line “You’re getting to the stage where you’ll fan out into a million different things to do” I think I’m beginning to get an inkling of what he means and for the first time since this project began I’m really beginning to feel as if the universe is aligning to help me get ‘Gleda’ on the water. I’m a ways off yet though, there’s still a huge amount to do, but if I keep pushing I know that rock is going over the edge and then there’s no stopping it!
