    Budgetboater suggested to me to use the speckled granite looking spray paint then pouring epoxy over it to look like granite countertops.

    Hmmm interesting thought Chuck. My biggest concern about this would be the poor UV resistance of epoxy and the subsequent yellowing. I know some epoxies have better resistance than others but the Sicomin one I’m using definitely yellows. I’m thinking gel coat might be worth a try though.

    Various types of shower board perhaps? Not exactly cheap, but you won’t need huge amounts of it. Have used some that was marine ply based, but most seems to be green (water resist) MDF these days.
    Surface is at least as tough as good quality kitchen worktops………. some is Formica surfaced
