2153Hrs – Mega Sanding Task….Done!
Well I really got stuck in today. Seven straight hours of sanding and I’ve got both hulls completed and mighty pleased I am about that!
I have to say I’m very impressed with my new De Walt random orbital sander, it’s performed brilliantly and wasn’t even slightly warm at the end of todays heavy work session.
In answer to Jons question about the belt sander in last nights blog picture, I only used it a few times to knock back some areas where I’d been a tad over generous with the filler. It saved time and ROS discs but yes of course it’s far too aggressive for general use at this stage.
I’m pretty pleased with the results of this first sanding, I’ve picked up a few areas that will need a bit more filler before the primer goes on but generally the finish seems pretty good. As I’ve mentioned before the primer will really show how much is still needed. First things first though next job is a good cleanup of the barn and giving the hulls a thorough jet wash. I’ll then need to leave things to dry out for a few days before I apply some more filler in a few places then I can see about primer. First job on Monday is to call the paint supplier and have a chat. Excited about that!
They’re looking fabulous Neil.
And that pile of wood delivered for the beams looked massive…
until you see it dwarfed by the hulls!
