2018 – Reboot
Gail and I got back to ‘Gleda’ Saturday evening.
Our friends Garry and June picked us up from Murcia airport and ran us to Lidl so that we could get some provisions. Thanks guys.
All was well aboard. Everything just as Gail had left it. If ever you need to leave your boat safe and snug in this part of Spain, you won’t do better than Yacht Port Cartagena.
I’d wondered if it would feel strange being back afloat after nearly a month. It didn’t. It felt right.
I don’t say that lightly. Circumstances aside, my time spent in the UK reinforced a couple of things. It’s no longer home, and I have no desire to return there.
The UK weather tried to follow us South.
It poured with rain Saturday night and there was some wind. But it was nice to feel the boat pulling on her lines, to be able to hear rain pattering on the cabin tops.
Sunday was spent unpacking and bringing the boat back to life. The sun came out. I sat on deck with a coffee feeling its warmth on my face.
Only now do I realise how much the last month has taken out of me. Physically and mentally I’m washed out. Gail picked up a cold in the UK. She always shares them with me. A sore throat, aching muscles and thick head add to my lethargy. Sleeping 12 hours through is not normal for me. I did it for two nights before the cold kicked in and now I want to sleep in the daytime too.
It’s going to take a while for any kind of normal to resume.
I did take a gentle jog towards Cala Cortina on Monday. I made it as far as the viewpoint up above the bay. Sitting on a bench I soaked up the view, listening to the water surging against the rocks. More of that will see me right.
I walked most of the way back. It’ll take some work to get back to my old jog/swim/jog routine.
So here we are. A day away from February and I’m pressing reset on the year.
Here’s hoping it runs a little smoother this time.
Whatever. I’ve decided something. I’m taking this year one month at a time. What follows, we’ll see.
I have only two goals for February.
Number 1: Finish and publish ‘A Foolish Odyssey’.
Number 2: Get myself fit, healthy and happy again.
It’s good to be home.
