1935 Hrs – eBay Day
I’ve added to my timber stock today with two eBay bargains. Firstly a 25kg pack of Mahogany offcuts which I think will get used for the stemheads and secondly another 3 sheets of 18mm BS1088 Marine Ply. I got the 3 sheets of ply and a half sheet off-cut for not much more than a single sheet would have cost from a timber merchant even taking into consideration the 2 hour round trip to go fetch them. It gives me a bit of insurance against cock-ups and will also allow me to build a double chain/rope stowage on the forward deck similar to that on Warrens ‘Natural High’.
When I got back from my trip it was a bit late to start any glass work so I opted instead to make a start on the first cross-beam web. It’s exciting to get back to some proper construction of big bits of the boat after so long tatting about with bits and pieces. I got the build floor covered in polythene , cut the six beam sections to shape and got the first layer nailed to the floor with joints glued. If all goes to plan I’ll laminate the upper layer on tomorrow.
