1111.5Hrs – More Hatches
Tonight I fitted the last of my small watertight hatches. I put the smallest in the floor of the port hull stern post section and two medium sized ones in the No8 stern bulkheads. There were already holes in these as per the plans but I hadn’t figured out why. Anyway it seemed logical to enlarge them slightly and fit the hatches there rather than cut another set of holes. The only place left that is still inaccessable is the area beneath the gas locker floor. I’m nt really sure what to do about that because any holes in this floor create an obvious risk of gas leaking into the large contained area beneath, not something I want! I’ve seen some watertight inspection hatches with transparent lids, maybe they are the answer as they would allow easy inspection and would only need to be opened in an emergency. Anyway there is plenty of time to think about that as they can easily be fitted even after the upper hull sides are done. My next job is to check the stern most bulkheads for height and shape and make any necessary adjustments but I am getting pretty close now to starting those upper hull sides.
